Hi John,

Nice to hear from you. Coincidentally, I've been working on the backlog for INTERACT.

As for the honors, it is easy for me to represent and add that information to the authors list.

I see that I have a page on hcibib.org for the CHI academy, a link to the HFES for 30 or so HFES fellows, and an annotation for 25 or so ACM fellows. I could start by adding an annotation for ACM Distinguished members, and I could create a page of non-CHI honors for ACM, HFES, and perhaps other societies.

I see the distinguished page on ACM,
 	http://awards.acm.org/homepage.cfm?srt=all&awd=157
and perhaps the best thing for me to do is write a script to pick up the awards and category.

I'll send you a note when it's done.

Regards to you and your hyphenated better half,

Gary

PS: How old is that kid of yours? Mine are 15 and 18, with the older one going away to university next year.

Dear Katharine,

Your first three questions are concerned with data, making Tufte a natural but perhaps unlikely respondent. The 4th question could apply to any field, but is very broad even in HCI, where the CSCW subfield has worked for over 25 years. The 5th question is also very broad and is like asking what fields HCI and task-oriented can be applied to, for which the answer is "any."

The data questions are personally interesting to me, but I do not know of much work beyond the design fields like Tufte's work. To me it's more philosophy than empirical research. See:
 	http://www.hcibib.org/readings.html#toc-graphics

Some pubs of possible interest:
 	http://hcibib.org/bs.cgi?searchtype=bookmark&form=none&query=J.TOG.10.2.111
 	http://hcibib.org/bs.cgi?searchtype=bookmark&form=none&query=J.TOG.5.4.345
 	http://hcibib.org/bs.cgi?searchtype=bookmark&form=none&query=J.TOG.10.1.1
 	http://hcibib.org/bs.cgi?searchtype=bookmark&form=none&query=J.TOG.5.2.110

As for people to ask, I think that the 4th and 5th questions are too general to get an answer from many. For the questions on data, I think you might want to be careful to either select researchers who actually work with data, or at least separate those who do and those who don't. Here is a query on experimental studies:
 	http://hcibib.org/bs.cgi?searchtype=canned&facetsize=10&highlight=checked&query=experiment*+condition*+result*
but perhaps a query for experimental results might produce a better list of researchers who work with data:
 	http://hcibib.org/bs.cgi?searchtype=pagination&query=experiment%2A+result%2A&numrecs=25&sortkey=byDate&highlight=checked&options=checked&form=line&facetsize=10&format=full
